Seven foods that will curb your appetite!

A happy Mariah Carey!
"Whenever I watch TV and see those poor starving kids all over the world, I can't help but cry. I mean I'd love to be skinny like that but not with all those flies and death and stuff."
Mariah Carey

Not exactly words of wisdom even if she is a great singer. Then again, by eating less food you do actually make more available for others. Here are some "down to earth" ways you can easily curb your appetite!
Eggs…cellent!
Did you know that a large egg yolk contains approximately 60 Calories and supplies all the essential amino acids for humans. It also provides many vitamins and minerals along with 12.9 grams of protein. Eaten at breakfast, eggs will reduce you urge to binge at lunchtime. Got high cholesterol? One study found no association between egg intake and blood cholesterol suggesting that when an egg is eaten, much of the cholesterol becomes "unavailable for absorption". http://www.unisci.com/stories/20014/1029013.htm
Like water for chocolate!
The consumption of high-cacao-content of chocolate has been identified with positive health benefits. A fancy term called “flavonol antioxidants” contained within chocolate appears to slow down digestion and helps make you feel full longer. With chocolate, the darker the better! Chocolate reduces blood pressure in both overweight and normal adults and can lower cholesterol levels in adults. http://jn.nutrition.org/content/138/4/725.abstract?sid=8776dd95-b0a2-4299-835f-98ed2561a48c
Awe nuts!
Many nuts help you belly to feel full. In particular, the Nevada pine nut has a sweet fruity flavor and is relished for its large size, sweet flavor and ease of peeling. Pine nuts, depending on species, contain 10–34% protein.
Cut the cheese!
Miley Cyrus caught eating cheesy pizza!
Not to “diss” American cheese but fresh goat or feta cheese contains a healthy dose of conjugated linoleic acid which helps you feel full and burn more fat. The calcium, protein, and phosphorus in cheese may act to protect tooth enamel by increasing saliva flow and washing away acids and sugars.
Skim the milk!
The proteins in milk (whey and casein) can help you feel full. Researchers have concluded that increased consumption of milk results in a reduction of abdominal fat, blood pressure and blood sugar. Hough, Andrew (2009-10-22). "Eating more cheese 'can help fat people lose weight', study claims".
Orange you glad you did!
Fiber, fiber, fiber! Oranges contain fiber which fights fat. Less fat means less flab. Orange peel contains citral, which antagonizes the action of vitamin A. If you happen to eat large quantities of orange peel, for whatever reason, you should make certain that their dietary intake of Vitamin A is sufficient. Audrey H. Ensminger, 'Foods & Nutrition Encyclopedia', Volume 1, (Ensminger Pub Co, January 1983)ISBN 0-941218-05-8.
You spud, you!
Potatoes are best known for their carbohydrate content (approximately 26 grams in a medium potato). They can help provide protect against colon cancer, lowers plasma cholesterol and can even reduces fat storage. Buy them fresh and prepare them yourself!
Let’s go shopping!

Small changes for a healthier and happier life!

The following changes in your diet will go along way in reducing your risk for all kinds of cancer while simultaneously adding years to your life. You'll understand why once you've read this list. If it seems to overwhelming, remember to take baby steps and stay focused on your goals. Enjoy!

Be a little fruity!
Eating a lot in fruits and vegetables can lower your risk of digestive-tract cancers. We're talking veggies that have not been fried in hot oil!

You call those teeth!
For the sake of you family, friends and co-workers, brush your teeth after every meal. Followed by flossing and rinsing if at all possible. Your dentist and pocket book will love you!

The American dream?
Breakfast...what's that?
It's the meal which follows "Forthmeal"...in the morning. Skip it and you'll simply be hungrier at lunchtime and will no doubt eat more. What you can skip is the Sausage McMuffin. Instead try a bowl of Kashi Heart to Heart bran flakes with blueberries and banana slices is simply out of this world.

Here's to you!

Red wine is high in flavonoids which are antioxidants. Antioxidants help prevent certain molecules, known as free radicals, from damaging cells. Remember, we're talking small amounts here.

Lend a hand!
A little volunteer work never killed anybody. Help others, improve your community while getting off the couch and out of the house. You'll also meet new friends, guaranteed!

Go green....the other one!
Cabbage contains sulforaphane, which increases your body's production of the enzymes that disarm cancer-causing free radicals. Folate rich like spinach may reduce instances of skin cancer tumors. While were at it, blackberries contain anthocyanins, a powerful antioxidant that have been shown to fight various forms of cancer. The honorable mention goes to egg yolks which are rich in choline and may be cancer-protective.

Something smells fishy 'round here!

Salmon and some other fish are high in omega-3 fatty acids which can help reduce your cancer risk. Next time your in the Pacific Northwest, be sure to indulge in several meals of some of the best salmon in the world.

Don't go against the grain!
High daily intakes of fiber lowers your risk of developing colon cancer. You definitely don't need anymore pain down there!

A Cornell University team recently completed one of the largest epidemiological studies, involving 6,500 Chinese for a period of 6 years. Some of their findings are fascinating and should not be overlooked:
  • Chinese consumed 20 percent more calories than Americans, but are less obese.
  • Chinese eat one-third of the fat Americans eat.
  • Americans eat 33 percent more protein than Chinese; 70 percent of this protein is from animals, compared to only 7 percent coming from animals for the Chinese.
  • Chinese consume three times the amount of fiber that Americans eat--33 grams versus 10 grams.
  • Chinese women have low rates of breast cancer. High dietary fats, protein, and calories promote early menarche (onset of menstruation), which is associated with higher breast cancer rates. Chinese women start menstruating three to six years later than Americans.
  • Osteoporosis is uncommon in China. Chinese do not consume dairy products, but rather get all their calcium from vegetables. They consume half as much calcium as Americans.
  • The cholesterol of the Chinese is approximately 127 mg% and 212 mg% for Americans--an 85 mg% difference.
